ABOUT OVENMELT

More care in the bake.
More clarity in the cost.

A workbench for the business of baking

A recipe starts with ingredients, but its price also has to account for time, packaging, overhead and usable yield. OvenMelt brings those numbers together so independent bakers can work through a price they understand.

The free tools cover ingredient cost, cake pricing, margin and markup, production scaling, baker’s percentages and break-even. The workspace connects ingredients, reusable recipes, quotations and a purchasing list. You can use it without creating an account.

How the numbers are checked

Each calculator explains its formula, a worked example and its limits. Money calculations use decimal arithmetic, with currency rounding made explicit. Missing ingredient prices stay unknown. Weight and volume remain different kinds of units unless you supply the density of the ingredient.

The baker’s percentage example follows King Arthur Baking’s professional reference. The break-even tool explains the SBA’s fixed-cost and unit-contribution method. These are planning tools; they do not forecast demand or replace your own production checks.

Where ingredient references come from

The ingredient weight reference contains 13,694 USDA FoodData Central foods and 36,829 documented portion weights. It keeps the food ID, source family, release and retrieval date beside the selected record. The data is US-focused and in English; it is not a catalogue of worldwide brands or current local prices.

USDA data is public domain under its CC0 terms. The data manifest records the releases and file checksums. Other source or license notices remain with the content they describe.

Your bakery information stays with you

The workspace stores your recipes and orders in this browser. Export a backup regularly, especially before moving devices or site addresses. Read Privacy & your data for storage, hosting and data-processing details.
