A LITTLE HELP, RIGHT HERE

Keep the work
moving.

Start with the task below. For a complete first recipe, follow the workspace guide.

Costs and units

Why does a recipe say “Needs attention”?

Open the recipe and read the highlighted issue. A blank ingredient price is unknown, not zero. Enter its pack price in Ingredients, or enter zero only when the ingredient is actually free. Every referenced ingredient and sub-recipe needs valid quantities and costs before a recipe-based quotation can be prepared.

Why won’t cups convert to grams?

A cup measures volume; grams measure weight. In the workspace, enter your ingredient’s measured density in grams per milliliter when you need to cross between them. The USDA reference can convert a documented food portion to its gram weight, but a source cup is not a universal density. US cups and 250 ml metric cups are different units.

Why are margin and markup different?

Markup divides the amount above cost by cost. Margin divides it by the selling price. A cost of 60 with a 30% markup gives 78; a 30% margin gives about 85.71. The margin calculator shows both. A 100% target margin cannot price a positive cost.

How should I count labor inside a filling or frosting?

A sub-recipe carries its own complete cost, including its labor and overhead. Add only the remaining work to its parent recipe so the same time is not counted twice. Sub-recipe quantities mean usable portions, not grams or a whole batch unless you defined one portion that way.

Saved work and backups

Where are my recipes saved?

They are saved in this browser profile for this site address. Another browser, device or domain has separate storage. Private browsing or clearing site data can remove your workspace. There is no automatic cloud backup.

How do I move my workspace to another device or domain?

Open Settings & backups and choose Export JSON backup. Keep the file private: it may include customer names and notes. On the destination browser, open the same settings, choose the backup file and review the replacement confirmation. Import replaces the destination workspace. Export that workspace first if you want to keep it.

What should I do if saving fails?

Keep the current tab open and export a backup before leaving. Check that this site can use browser storage and that the device has free space. If another tab has a newer save, reload to use it or export your current tab’s work before deciding which copy to keep.

Why can’t I change the workspace currency?

Currency is locked while records exist to prevent amounts being relabeled as another currency. Export a backup, then clear the workspace only if you want a fresh start. OvenMelt does not perform exchange-rate conversion.

Print and export

How do I save a quotation or shopping list as a PDF?

Open the quotation or Shopping list and choose Print / PDF. In your browser’s print dialog, select Save as PDF, use A4 paper and turn off browser headers and footers to remove the web address. Review the preview before saving. Browser print settings and pagination can vary.

Why doesn’t the shopping estimate match the ingredient cost?

The shopping list rounds up to whole packs after combining active orders. Recipe cost uses only the quantity consumed. Existing stock is not deducted, and packaging supplies are planned separately. A missing price is excluded from the known-price total and remains visibly marked.

Does editing an ingredient change an old quotation?

No. A saved quotation preserves its prices. Edit the quotation when you agree on a new price. Quotations and production orders are separate records; saving one does not automatically create the other.

Food reference results

Why can’t I find a food or portion?

Try fewer search words or switch USDA source families. You can include foods without source portion weights, but OvenMelt will not infer a cup or spoon weight. Check the selected food’s preparation, release date and source record before using it.

Can I use the nutrient values on a product label?

The displayed values describe a source food per 100 g. They do not account for your recipe, cooking retention, allergens or local labeling rules. They are not a regulatory nutrition label.

Contact the publisher

For a question or correction, contact OvenMelt. Include the tool name and a simple example that reproduces the issue. Leave out customer details, private recipes and backup files unless specifically needed and agreed.

Describe a calculation problem clearly

Use the tool name, the steps you followed and a small example with non-private numbers. Include the result you expected and the result shown. Avoid customer names, order details and full backup files. For a USDA record, note its public FDC ID and source family so the same record can be checked.
