What belongs in the price of a cake?
Start with ingredients and decorations, then count active labor such as preparation, decorating, packing and cleanup. Add packaging and the share of your operating costs allocated to the order. Use your own estimates; there is no universal hourly rate or margin that fits every bakery.
Total cost = ingredients + (hours × rate) + packaging + overhead
Margin and markup give different prices
For a cost of USD 60, a 30% markup gives a price of USD 78. A 30% margin gives a price of about USD 85.71. Margin divides profit by the selling price. Markup divides profit by the cost.
Is this my final customer price?
